RAISING STANDARDS.
STRENGTHENING TRUST.
This coalition brings together parents, players, coaches, and community members committed to integrity, transparency, and accountability in youth nonprofit governance.
Our goal is simple: protect the mission, strengthen oversight, and ensure lasting public trust in Gold Country Soccer League.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
- Margaret Mead
COMMUNITY VOICES
Real perspectives from parents, coaches, board members, and community contributors dedicated to strengthening youth soccer and advancing transparency in nonprofit governance.
*The views expressed below represent the personal experiences and opinions of individual community members. Submissions have been reviewed for respectfulness and relevance, and no statements should be interpreted as allegations or findings of fact.
*These reflections highlight the shared hope for continuous improvement and renewed collaboration across our soccer community.
"As a rec coach, I was pretty surprised to find out the bylaws were recently changed to take away my voting rights just because I don’t have a coaching license, as most rec coaches don't. Every coach, from rec to comp, should have a voice in the league’s future. After all, rec coaches make up the majority of coaches in this nonprofit. This was even more confusing since gcsl just announced that they are integrating our rec and comp programs because they believe in the power of unity."

"Establishing clear term limits would strengthen accountability and help ensure fresh ideas in leadership. Two terms in ten years for board members, and a four-year maximum for paid staff within each ten-year period, would promote balance and long-term sustainability."
-Parent
"When I’ve reached out with questions, it’s felt like no one was really listening. Better two way communication would go a long way in helping parents feel more involved and appreciated."
-Parent
"Concerns have been raised about teams within the recreational league receiving additional coaching time or special consideration. Ensuring that all recreational teams are balanced and that every child has equal access to development opportunities would restore fairness and confidence across the program. When I tried to raise these concerns, the responses felt dismissive, and I hope future leadership embraces more open dialogue and accountability."
-Parent
"When my son was eight, he was eager to play competitive soccer. I was told that eight years old was too young to begin. As a parent, that was difficult to accept because his readiness and love for the game were clear. We later joined a neighboring club that welcomed players his age, and the difference was remarkable — not only in his skills, but in his confidence and joy. Every child deserves the chance to grow when their passion begins, not when a system decides they’re ready."
-Parent
"I believe that fresh perspectives are vital to any healthy organization. Board and staff roles should rotate regularly, ensuring new ideas and accountability. Structured term limits would help maintain balance, transparency, and community trust."
-Coach/Parent
"Our child played in the competitive program for two seasons. While we appreciated the effort of those involved, the program didn’t meet our expectations, and we eventually joined another club farther away. Though the drive can be long, the improvement in organization and player development has been worth it. We hope that, in time, our local program can offer the same level of growth so families don’t feel they have to leave to find it."
-Parent
"I’ve often felt that communication between the league’s administration and its volunteers could be stronger. Fairness of play seems to be a recurring topic among families and coaches, yet it rarely finds structured attention. I hope this coalition helps renew focus on equality and consistency in youth sports."
-Volunteer Coach
"I simply wanted my child to enjoy the game and feel supported. Over time, communication seemed to fade, and player development no longer felt like the central focus.
-Parent
"The competitive program should challenge players and foster their growth. With clearer structure and higher standards, it can become the developmental pathway our young athletes deserve."
-Parent
"Coaching here showed me both the potential and the frustration. The kids were eager to learn, but the framework to support their development wasn’t always clear. I’m sharing this because I believe we can build something better — organized, transparent, and focused on the players’ growth."
-Coach
"Serving on the board gave me valuable insight into how much effort goes into running a community program. Still, communication gaps and shifting priorities sometimes clouded that effort. When honest questions were met with resistance, it was discouraging. I’m hopeful that greater openness and accountability can bring this community together again."
-Former Board Member
"Improving player development programs and communication within the club should be a top priority. Families want clarity, consistency, and a stronger sense of connection between coaches, players, and administration."
-Coach
"The culture sometimes feels discouraging. Perhaps bringing in an outside consultant to review operations and offer objective advice could help the organization find a more positive, collaborative direction. A healthy environment starts with humility and teamwork."
-Community Member
"No 'special teams' should be formed within a recreational league. Teams should be balanced in skill level and have equal access to coaching and practice opportunities. That’s how you ensure fairness and development for every child."
-Parent
"The board would benefit from term limits to prevent stagnation and groupthink. New members bring energy and perspective, which are essential for transparency, fairness, and continuous improvement."
-Parent
"Consider new leadership initiatives and updated program structures that focus on player development. A renewed approach could bring excitement and momentum back to the organization’s mission."
-Coach
"At times, it’s been difficult to get responses from the administration when seeking clarification or support. I truly hope for better communication and openness between the club and families."
-Parent
